2022 - Stayin' in the Loop

2022. Travel. Music. Growth.
Life’s a trip, and the past year has taken me and Aviva around the globe.
Looking forward to March 2023 as the personal evolution continues.

Travel: Seoul, Oahu, Oxford, Cambridge, London, Seattle, Denver
Gigs: Father John Misty, Porches, Darwin Deez, Spoon, Turnstile, Belle and Sebastian, Sigur Rós, Broken Social Scene, Victony, Madison McFerrin, Bartees Strange, St. Lucia, Wild Nothing, Skegss, Pond, Men I Trust, Wet Leg, Foals

However you enjoy it, THANKS FOR LISTENING!

01. Wet Dream - WET LEG
A buzzed-about band where the hype is well-deserved. Fun.

02. Lockdown - KOFFEE
Digging the accent, terms of phrase & general vibe here.

03. The Loop - TORO Y MOI
Title track. Groovy.

04. alright - YAYA BEY
This smooth flow puts me right into a velvet recliner in my mind.

05. Escape This Circus - BARTESS STRANGE
A top live performer who delivers a genre-hopping LP this year. I hope more attention comes this way.

06. Unnecessary Drama - BELLE AND SEBASTIAN
New friends and travel have reinforced my affinity for the Scottish people over the past couple of years, so when B&S drop their new record, I pay attention.

07. The Only Heartbreaker - MITSKI
Aviva loves Mitski. The deal was sealed when we saw her perform at Boston Calling a few years ago. I share the love.

08. Just a Clown - PRIMER
Virtually unknown. The whole debut record is worthy of your time (if this one is of interest)

09. Service - MIKE FRANCIS
Another newbie. Introduced to me by the endlessly talented musician/producer/friend Sam O.B. , whom you’ll hear from on #13.

10. Seventeen Going Under - SAM FENDER
Takes me right back.

11. Simulation Swarm - BIG THIEF
Check out their NPR Tiny Desk video. If you like this kind of thing, they’re the real deal.

12. Late Nights - JEREMIH
I considered sharing the full Jeremih record instead of this mix right here. It’s chill. Always Late Nights in my mind.

13. Love Feels - DAVE + SAM
Optimal scene: Late night. Loud.

14. AYE! (FREE THE HOMIES) - VINCE STAPLES
Unique voice at the top of his game. Modern sounds of summer.

15. Best Thing You Never Had (The D Song) - SPIRITUALIZED
It speaks to you or it doesn’t. For me, it does. I’m a sucker for a gospel chorus with horns.

16. 100% Endurance - YARD ACT
Musical/thematic combo of The Streets x Art Brut. (How have those bands not shown up on a playlist from the past?)

17. Costly Engineered Illusion - CRACK CLOUD
Thanks, Connor. I expect most to skip this one.

18. Elevation - BRAXE + FALCON
Who else is making music like this today? Lots of love for Step by Step (w/ Panda Bear of Animal Collective), but this is the one for me.

19. Love Brand New - BOB MOSES
The duo continues to fill a previously unknown space in my mental shelf of musical appreciation. If interested, here’s Days Gone By.

20. Lucifer On The Sofa - SPOON
If you know me, you know I LOVE SPOON. This year’s offering, from which this is the title track, is one where the band is at the top of their game.
